Paramount Fall 2017 In House Tournament

Had the Fall 2017 In House (our gym and a bunch of neighboring gyms hold their own tournament) tournament this weekend.

The girls did awesome.

It was a packed house with lots of opportunities to practice grappling.

Lauren had 5 different matches in 2 different categories (she split weight and experience between two groups). She won 2 of her 5 and got a third place in the harder category.

Here’s here first match, which she won, of the day. This was against Davis. He’s a kid at our gym.

Abigail had only 2 matches, and won both of them.

This was her second match where she took the win for her category with an arm bar submission.

Both girls did so awesome that day.

Third Gear

Rode dirt scoots with Craig in Thorpe yesterday.

It had rained all night and lotsĀ of leaves are down, so things were extra slippery.

That’s my favorite time to ride.

We had no choice but to go slower than normal (less throttle not speed). Still felt like we were flying since the front and rear ends of our bikes were constantly going in different directions.

We’ve been told and have explored riding in such tricky conditions in third gear. Power delivery to the rear wheel is much smoother in 3rd. There are very few fits and bursts of power to lose grip and slip off your line. The problem is that you’re typically going a lot faster in third gear. Overall the bike is just rolling at a fasterĀ speed up or down the trail.

You have to think faster.

You have to make decisions quicker.

So much fun.

So much smoother.

Doing Some Travel

After 3 weeks (business days) away, I’m finally home for a week.

The new job is going ok.

It’s a lot of work.

I probably spend at least 3 nights a week working after the kids go to bed (if I’m home), and around 10 hours on the weekend.

I’m hoping that slows down or I at least get a better handle of things.

Part of the problem is that we’re kind of blowing things up operationally at work. We’ve been doing things a certain way for too long and it’s not working out. Time to try something new.

On the house front, Jen talked to a number of contractors last week for estimates on our bathrooms. As some of you may know, we took the shower out of our master bathroom 10 years ago, and hadn’t gotten around to putting it back. That needs to get done.

I’ve looked at a few houses and neighborhoods in the Boston area. It’s REALLY expensive. In the short term the promotion will likely feel like a demotion with pay reduction because of the housing expense up there. Hopefully I excel as I plan to at the position and raises come soon.

The kids are great.

That’s it for now.

Sorry no pictures. They’re too much work.

If you want to see pictures, you need a Flickr account then give me your account id.

Big Changes

I’ve been promoted to VP of R&D and we’re moving to Boston next summer.

Remember that tall glassy building on the water in downtown Boston I posted a few weeks ago? That will be my office in 2019.

Do Something Cool

On the way home from Jiu Jitsu yesterday, Abigail says, “Dad, since mom and Lauren are sick, let’s you and I do something cool like rock climbing?”

Great idea kid.

She did really well. The up was the easy part for her. Coming down was a little sketchy, but we practiced and practiced to get used to the feeling and obviously got better at it.

Bike Sold

Sold my Honda.

Got it inspected, listed and gone.

The purge continues.

Sick All Week

Lauren’s been sick all week. Started with a fever for a few days. Now it’s a nasty cough and generally feeling yuck

Jen is starting to get it too.

Don’t mean to sound selfish, but I’ve got way too many big things happening over the next two weeks to get sick. I hope it skips me. So far Abigail and I are in the clear.

Uh-Oh

Abigail burnt her chin and lip on our Daddy Daughter Camping trip this weekend.

We were using metal hot dog/marshmallow sticks. She was warned they could burn if you weren’t careful.

She wasn’t careful.

School pictures were Monday.

Oh well.

The photographer offers digital touch ups. Looks like we’ll be utilizing that service.

She toughed it out.

It’s all you can really do anyway.

Pool Is Closed

Jen is still working on the tile(we can fold the cover back for that), but the pump is off and swimming is over.
