Third Gear

Rode dirt scoots with Craig in Thorpe yesterday.

It had rained all night and lotsĀ of leaves are down, so things were extra slippery.

That’s my favorite time to ride.

We had no choice but to go slower than normal (less throttle not speed). Still felt like we were flying since the front and rear ends of our bikes were constantly going in different directions.

We’ve been told and have explored riding in such tricky conditions in third gear. Power delivery to the rear wheel is much smoother in 3rd. There are very few fits and bursts of power to lose grip and slip off your line. The problem is that you’re typically going a lot faster in third gear. Overall the bike is just rolling at a fasterĀ speed up or down the trail.

You have to think faster.

You have to make decisions quicker.

So much fun.

So much smoother.
