Dirt Bike Days

Been trying to get out on the bike as much as possible. Only way to get better is saddle time.

In the beginning of the month, I managed a couple of trips up to Jim Thorpe, but those are tough being that they’re all day affairs.

That’s the abandoned dam in Nesquehoning we can ride into (through the hole at the bottom left) and around.

Lately I’ve been trying some local stuff. Local is tough due to legality. There’s one near Royersford, in an old silt basin, that’s very accessible, but the style of riding isn’t my forte. It’s more motocross stuff (whoops, jumps, banked turns, track kind of stuff). There’s another near Coatesville that is very much my style (tight, twisty, steep, and rocky), but it’s accessibility is questionable.

We’ve actually decided to replace our Wednesday night mt. bike rides with Wednesday night dirt bike rides in Coatesville. I guess the accessibility question will work itself out.

ps. Craig is already onto his second bike. The Honda 250 he bought last fall was a dual sport. He decided to upgrade and buy the trail specific 250. He’s much happier now, but he’s still a little nuts. Maybe Abigail can use that to her advantage?

Gettn’ Some Work Done

The original plan was to have a heat pump pool heater installed and move the equipment away from the house.

Considering the mark up they quoted and what we can get the heat pump for ourselves online, we opted for just the equipment move.

Instead of between the house and pool, where we frequently walk to get between the back and front yards, and where you can constantly hear it run, we’re having it moved to the other side of the pool shed.

Which means the bushes had to go.

The plan obviously is to have it all moved and ready to go, then we buy the heater separately and plumb it in ourselves.

Voila! Comfortable swimming water the entire season.

Daredevils

As if that wasn’t enough, they decided to try out their balance bikes on Dad’s new loading ramps.

Completely on their own, without me spotting, they started low then worked their way higher until they could ride freely from the top.

From across the yard, I couldn’t tell if the neighbor with his 5 year old son was astonished or disgusted as they watched the girls rip down the ramps. He was welcome to try it himself…

New Process

Obviously the blog is falling behind.

Surprisingly it takes a lot of time. Time I rarely have these days.

The biggest issue is the photos. The blog system (or the way it’s configured) and the gallery I have require photos to be of a certain size. Which means every photo I wanted to post, I had to edit. Don’t have time for that.

We have started posting all our photos (from our phones and cameras) to various cloud services, but ALL of our photos are there and we never share ALL of our photos. So we’re working on ways to share them easily, quickly, and safely.  Yes. Safety is important. As well as privacy – ironic considering it’s a public blog.

Anyway, sorry if you’ve missed us. We are working on it. Hopefully we haven’t lost everyone.

Dirtballs

The girls have been spending a lot of time playing outside between our house and the neighbors.

Only issue is the mild winter has given us a very active tick season. Not a big deal if it’s a dog tick (or 5), but the deer ticks make me nervous.

We’ll just have to keep an eye out.

Traveling Fool

First it was too much work.

Now it’s too much travel.

So much that I need an expedited passport renewal.

College is expensive. We do what we have to…

What’s Up

Work has gotten very crazy for the both of us.

The old system of re-sizing every photo for word press or our gallery takes too much time.

Looking for alternatives that we like (there are plenty, but…)

So that’s why the posts have steadily trailed off.

Peepers Already

Got to ride last Wednesday night (3/2/16), which was a miracle in itself.

While getting ready in the parking lot, I could hear the peepers making their song in the marshy area that runs alongside.

Las year – the really really cold year – we didn’t hear the peepers until the middle of April.

Generally they start their singing the middle of March around here.

Abigail’s Bday!

After an episode of sick at the beginning of the month postponing her party, and nearly postponing again because of another episode of sick, we finally had her 6th birthday party.

Total party girl count was 14.

It was a long and fun day.

Now it’s time to clean up.

Abigail’s 6th Barfday

IMG_8544

A little stomach bug went through the house on Abigail’s birthday. Abigail and Mom got it. Besides cleaning up and looking after the sick, Lauren and I were spared.

Luckily it wasn’t a “down & out I feel awful” kind of thing. Just a “can’t keep anything down” sort of deal. Either way, we’ve postponed her birthday party until the 20th.

The day was not without the perfect gift for our six year old (and her sister).

They’ve been building Crazy Forts constantly since opening it. Tonight they’re actually sleeping in their hybrid igloo. Should be interesting.
