The contractor has started making progress. They got the new siding up on the front of the house while the weather was good.
I think it looks really sharp. Makes me wonder why we didn’t do it sooner.
Then they moved inside and started doing some prep work with lights downstairs and the master bath that we’ve have torn up since we moved in.
The biggest gotcha so far is the drop ceiling downstairs. We were planning to replace the tiles with newer/whiter tiles, but come to find out our size is non-standard. Quick measurement and quote for a drywall ceiling and that’s the path forward.
The bathroom we’re adding downstairs had a nice ripple effect on space allocations. Because it displaces the majority of our storage
and Jen wants a cleaner more staged appearance for showing the house, we went ahead and got a storage unit and moved a whole bunch of stuff around.
Basically it all went from the basement to storage, the garage, or
the garage attic depending on when we planned to need it again.
Needless to say there was a lot of sorting, packing, moving, loading, hauling, carrying and stacking going on this weekend. At least now I feel like the move will be a lot easier when it happens. We’ve basically done the “heavy lifting” already.
Of course there were a number of trips to Goodwill as well. I’m still astounded by how much we’ve purged, and yet still have.
The rough schedule is as follows:
Finish the master bath this week
Take down the existing drop ceiling this weekend
Start and finish main bathroom next week
Start the new bathroom next week
Ceiling, walls, and floors downstairs beginning the week of the 19th

We decided to put Gretchen down Wednesday January 31.
There was a night (of likely many to come) of explosive diarrhea and obvious discomfort for her.
Luckily our veterinarian friend was able to stop by that night and take care of things for us at home like he did CJ.
The worst part for me was not being there. I was away for work and unfortunately could only share the experience through pictures.
As always the girls got through it, and we’re all moving on.

ps. they’re already talking kittens when we get to Boston

When my ongoing sick took a turn for the worse two weeks ago, the Dr. put me on antibiotics.
Unfortunately I don’t thinkĀ they did anything for my cold (viral vs bacterial sort of thing), but I do think they resolved my stomach issues.
I’ve had significant improvements in digestive function since going on and taking the entire course of antibiotics.
Maybe I picked something up in Ireland back in August? That was the time frame when this started.
Maybe I should follow up with the Dr?

Despite my cold taking a turn for the worse and not being able to function without the behind-the-counter meds, I flew to Cleveland for a customer visit. It was an angry customer visit.
Oh well.
Made it through, flew back home, and still sick.
At some point something will get better.

Started the week in Boston.
Drove through a snow storm to Rochester.
Ended back home.
No wonder I’m still sick.

She has a growth (probably cancer) in her small intestine.
She’s on steroids now to give her a month or two more, but she’s not making the move to Boston.

The sick changed once more. Now I’m in bed without a whole lot else going on.
Managed to get to the Dr. this morning. They put me on an antibiotic and took a swab to ensure it’s not flu.
Regardless it all sucks. Sucks a lot. I want to stop being sick.

Batting 1000 today.
Since August or so I’ve been experiencing “abdominal discomfort”. I won’t get into the details, but it has steadily gotten worse.
The obvious non medical professional diagnosis is that it’s related to stress.
If only it were that easy.
I’m not exhibiting any of the normal signs for stress related ailments. The medical folks dismiss it as an option quite quickly.
It’s something else. They have ideas, so I’ll get some tests to confirm.
The leading theory is gluten.
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to join a bandwagon!
Kidding aside, none of this is making everything else that’s going on any easier.
Good times.
Hold steady.

She’s been on a hunger strike for a couple of weeks.
She’ll eat people food, but not dog food.
That’s not exactly scalable around here these days.
Finally after she peed on the floor in front of Jen, we took her to the Vet.
Besides the dog being old, they have no idea without more tests, so we did the blood work.
Should know something soon.
In the meantime she’s enjoying her chicken and rice. What will be interesting is if/when she decides not to eat that either.
I give it a week.

No longer is it just a cold for a week or two. It’s an on again off again cold for 6 weeks that manifests itself 4 different ways.
Love it.
