Wed. Night Ride(s)
I’ve been managing to make it out for the Wednesday night rides pretty regularly now.
Occasionally I even show signs of fitness, but they’re short lived and sparse.
This last ride I went out with a light battery I thought was fully charged. Shortly after the second (or was it third? not like there was any downhill in between) climb, I realized it wasn’t. I let the rest of the group go and headed back to the car by myself in the dark. Between my history on these trails and the lights of Downingtown shimmering in the valley, I had plenty to see my way.
Back at the car I grabbed my battery from last week and headed back out in search of the rest. After some sketchy moves on the road wearing only black, I made it back to the woods and found the group.
The snow was deep enough to make going up hill very difficult – difficult enough to walk most of the time. Once at the top, the trip down was only slightly better. My front tire seemed to have too much float on the snow. Instead of cutting ruts and tracking straight it tended to drift off to the sides in directions I didn’t need to go.
We mixed it up between roads and semi-ridable trails. Though our time out was the same as usual, our mileage was less than average. That’s ok this time of year.
Afterwards we skipped the usual night at Victory and headed to our new favorite place – Station Taproom. Since the “upgrades”, Victory hasn’t been the same. The fact the current management could give two shits we’ve been going there for over a decade certainly doesn’t help.
Till next week…
