Another Downhill Weekend

Rick, Ben and I escaped to Seven Springs this weekend for some weekend dirtbag fun.

On Saturday we hit the downhill park. They added some new stunts, Ben and I had to hit.

Rick hit the drop and the “rainbow”, but didn’t do the gap jump. At first we didn’t think we’d do it either, but after riding the lift by it so many times we finally convinced ourselves to try.

At some point I finally decided to do the downhill rock drop I’d been avoiding the last three years. That was pretty fun.

The video just doesn’t show how steep it all is.

Ben wanted me to take the shot of him hitting the drop from the lift overhead. Though he’s hit this thing many many times, this was the one that didn’t go so well.

I really can’t believe I’m here jumping bikes at 36 years old.

I honestly didn’t think things would go well this year. All morning and the day before I kept thinking of Abigail and how I didn’t want to get hurt. It just didn’t really interest me to go launching off 20′ table tops. After a couple of runs most of that cleared up and I was riding just fine. I may not have ridden my best, but I did just fine. The heat finally got to us and we quit somewhere around 3pm.

This morning we got up and rode our cross country bikes on the 24hr race course. You may remember last year I was not able to complete the lap. This year was much better. I got the lap finished and pretty much enjoyed it too. Hopefully in the coming weeks I can manage a little more mt. biking. That would be nice.

I’d be too scared to do any of it, but man that looked cool…

You’d be surprised how well you can do with the right DH equipment after riding “similar” stuff for so many years on your XC bikes.
