Has lots of character. Has lots of “issues”.
We made sure that we got a place that had “most of the work done”, and it does for the most part. I think my bar is just a little higher than most.
Though we’re not remodeling bathrooms and kitchens, we’re “properly” insulating and sealing/etc. Stuff I did in PA – when I was younger, had more time, and more motivation.
The main sewer line should be replaced. Snaking it is (not) a joy, though having to snake it is not why it should be replaced. Being 140 years old is why it should be replaced.
It’s nice. It will get done, and then be nicer.

It’s been a while.
Work has been insane.
Now it’s the holiday.
Maybe we’ll have some time.
Lauren turned 7.
The girls have been climbing quite a lot.
We’re lucky to be conveniently located near a world class gym.

We went on our annual ADK Canoe Camping trip. That was fun.
Abigail actually paddled herself across both lakes. That was pretty cool to see.
The girls had a blast in the woods.
They usually do.
With all these campfires lately, it was finally time to have one in the house.
Yes. It’s totally chilly enough here at night to have a fire in the fireplace. Plus, our house is so “open”, it’s never going to get that hot anyway.
The girls and I went mt. biking.
It was a rough start, but in the end we all really enjoyed it and are looking forward to going again this weekend.
We even managed to get our skis for the winter. Bring on the snow!
Also to note – we changed Jiu Jitsu gyms. The one we were going to just wasn’t “enough”. We found another one that’s actually closer to home with a better program. Looking forward to making progress again in our training.

Did a test run for my bike commute to the current office.
It’s about 5 minutes longer than it is to drive.
As soon as my scheduled clears up (all day meetings this week with out-of-towners, i.e. dinner every night), I’ll have to start riding.

There was a party in the space over Lauren’s room this morning.
I can’t wait for those damn things to be gone.

Noticed one day that a squirrel appeared to disappear into the wall over Lauren’s window on the third floor.
Got up in the attic to see if I could find anything from the inside. Unfortunately the dormer over her window isn’t accessible from the attic.
Asked the neighbor, if they happen to be in their third floor, if they could take a look. This is the picture we got.
There are two more similar holes in the dormer over the office. First we’ll have to get the squirrels out, then we’ll have to have it repaired.
Oh boy.

A recent re-org at work put a bunch of people within my group. Had to go over and “welcome” them aboard.
The flights back and forth were fine.
The jet lag was terrible. It wasn’t until the day I left that I had any real cognition.
Next time I’ll take something like Tylenol PM to ensure I get to sleep each night on time.

I’m thousands of miles away and Jen sends me this.
The sidewalks on both sides of the road are under water.
The silver car is actually driving through it. The black car parked beyond it had the rear wheel floated up on the curb.
Luckily it all drained very quickly. Took roughly 10 minutes to get back to normal.

Lauren has gotten herself on a Mermaid and Unicorn kick. Not sure how or why, but it’s certainly cute as it sounds.
You can imagine her excitement when she found the following.
“Mom! It’s what Mermaid’s drink!”
I think what’s nearly as cute is Abigail rolling her eyes in the background.

As the nights are getting cooler, we picked up this fancy fire pit perfectly suited for our backyard space.
It’s really pretty awesome. It burns super hot and well confined. There’s also little smoke.
We like it so much, we ordered a half cord of wood to use this fall as we transition to the fire places for the winter.
We should probably order the half cord equivalent in marshmallows while we’re at it.
