The plan was to spend all weekend (again) working on the pool deck, while Jen stained the house deck.
Unfortunately the stain she wanted is not currently distributed. The company was bought by another company and working out new distributions.
Then I ran into this. Flat tire.
Dropped it off at the tire shop, and move on.
Can’t say I got a lot done. It was hot as hell, so that slowed things down. Also had to trim around and shore up a receptacle, and add more support along the edge of the concrete.
Still looks pretty good.
Getting close to the end, but the end is going to need work. Not sure if it was always this way or settled since June when we started, but the framework needs some leveling and strengthening. Also looks like we’ll need to order a few more boards.
I also managed to to finish up the pellet stocking.
Nice to know I’m completely set for the winter. Not to mention the 500 ga tank of propane we also have.
And the girls…
The girls swam their butts off this weekend.
They spent nearly both days in or around the pool all day.
So much so, I had to devise a barrier to ensure they stayed in the shallow end where I knew I could jump in and rescue either if they needed it without myself also drowning.
Yeah. It’s pretty redneck, but the float rope won’t be here until Tuesday, and honestly we didn’t expect them to be swimming this much independently yet. Not entirely independently. I was there the whole time working on the deck, and made them get out if I had to leave, but they were in the water by themselves.
So that was it for this weekend. Now it’s late and I should have been in bed an hour ago.

I got a chance this week to take Abigail to Jiu Jitsu.
I was really surprised to see the size of the class, with additional parents trying to sign their kids up as it was going.
Though maybe all the MMA stuff has classes like these overflowing.
Whatevs. She still likes it and the instructors emphasis on discipline is a plus.

Lauren and Abigail have this game they play with the pool thermometer.
They pretend they are swim instructors and the thermometer is their student named Classy.
They’ll spend twenty minutes yelling at Classy to swim this way and that.
It’s kind of startling assuming that’s their impression of the swim classes they took last spring.
Then again, so what. They both can swim enough not to die just yet. Abigail’s even started doggy paddling from one end of the pool to the other. Though she doesn’t know when to stop and often swims herself silly.

Spent the weekend working around the house.
I worked on the pool deck. I’m just shy of half-way done, and it looks really nice.
Jen did some power washing. First some of the garage. so that she could a feel for the washer.
Then onto the deck as her main project.
The plan is/was to get it stained next weekend.

Abigail started Jiu Jitsu this week.
So far she loves it.
They offer it at Jen’s gym for 4 years old and older. For a while we kind of talked about it, and the more we talked about it the more Abigail got excited.
Definitely not expecting any kind of Ronda Rousey success, but would be nice if she gets a belt or two.

Who’s thinking about winter heating in this August heat?
I am.
Home Depot had stock in my favorite pellet, so I bought 2 tons.
Only 1/2 ton more to go and we’re good for the winter.
Definitely not getting caught without pellets or having to buy super expensive pellets this year.

Abigail’s turn.
Exploring the deck the day after arrival.
After reading a story where the kids took notebooks and drew pictures of what they say, Abigail decided to do the same, and she did it quite well. This was of a plant with what she said were insect eggs on its leaves.
Cold Maine waters are best enjoyed with wet-suits.
Mmmmm. Smore’s by the fire.
Playing on the sandbars at low tide.
Found lots of shells on the sandbars.
Drawing more pictures of what she’s seeing. I think it was a frog this time.
Some serious ice cream.
Now it’s silly.
Swimming from the sandbars.

Go for lots of hikes.
Eat lots of ice cream!
Swim some more!
Play in the sand.
