Black Walnut

Neighbor mom let the kids dig into the husks of fresh black walnuts.

I guess she didn’t know how problematic that could be.

Pretty sure Peanut now knows.

Ps. None of the lemons, salt, toothpaste, baking soda, or oil remedies worked to reduce the stain.

Pps. At least it’s ONLY the first day of school tomorrow.

Cartoon Time

Over the summer we started letting the girls watch cartoons on weekend mornings.

As many of you already know, this is totally awesome.

Finally we can sleep in.

Finally we can sip and relax with coffee once we actually get up – for at least an hour after the fact.

Vacation was even better. Every day they watched cartoons. Every day we slept in and relaxed with coffee.

Joy…

Vacation Rejuvenation

Barely lasted two weeks.

Drip

Not good.

Car is too new to be dripping like this.

Raptor Attack

The girls wanted to drink their bedtime milk outside to watch the bats this evening. While one swooped closer to the trees, a large bird of prey swooped out and nabbed it.

Very fast.

Very quiet.

Very cool to see.

First Time Riding

in months…

It really hurt.

It hurt in ways I don’t remember mountain biking ever hurting.

It hurt to walk up the hills, let alone ride them.

Luckily Craig broke his chain, it got dark and we ended the ride early.

Hopefully it hurts at least a little less next time.

First Time Climbing

in months…

Ouch. That hurt. Good thing it was in the safety of the gym.

My body was really unprepared. Moves that usually seem standard felt awkward and painful. I’ll have to keep going.

Wednesday night is mountain biking after a many month hiatus. I’m sure that will hurt too.

Swimmers

The swimming lessons have finally paid off.  Both girls are swimming confidently and enthusiastically.

That’s Lauren happily doing a backstroke through the deep end. Certainly more than I was doing at that age.

And that’s Abigail swimming down to the bottom of the deep end (8ft) to get not 1, but 2 dive rings. And the damn things lay on their sides. They don’t stand straight up and down like the ones I was getting when I was 10.

It won’t be long and we’ll have to start having pool parties – again.

Vacation Reset

Oddly enough I actually feel rejuvenated after vacation.

I wonder why work ever seemed so hard? Why was I always so tired?

I also wonder how long this rejuvenation will last?

Hill Repeats

There was quite a drop in elevation between the house and the water – roughly equivalent to 2 flights of stairs.

For whatever reason we started doing daily hill repeat sessions in the morning. First just 10 laps, then 12, 20, etc.

Hurt like hell the first couple of days. Eventually became a challenge to see who could do the most.

Fitness = fun.
