Un-Hitched

A couple of weeks ago when we went camping I decided to try the trailer/car setup vs. the truck. Not only that, but I decided to try the trailer hooked to the Prius.

I didn’t get far from the house before realizing the trailer on the Prius wasn’t very practical. It completely changed the ride and handling of the car – all of which I expected considering Toyota recommends against hitches and trailers on the Prius.

After getting home and unpacked I decided to take the hitch off.

And just like that the car gets 2 more miles per gallon!

That’s right. Simply carrying around the extra 30-some pounds at the rear of the vehicle lowered the gas mileage, though it was more likely the aerodynamics than the weight that caused it.
