Tap Room

Loaded up the kiddies and headed to Chesapeake City on Sunday for some crabs.

We really weren’t sure how it was going to go down with the little girls. Eating crabs is something that can take an awful lot of time – a lot of time sitting there doing nothing if you’re a little kid.

Luckily both Vera and Abigail slept the entire drive down, so they were good and rested. The other thing that helped I think was all the action. Not only is there lots of crab smashing going on, but the Tap Room is a bar (and a shore bar at that) so it’s a little louder than most food establishments. That extra noise I think was just enough stimulus to keep the kids contently occupied.

We managed a dozen jumbos and a dozen larges. We were there for a little over two hours and the babies did great. Afterward we headed down to the wharf/common area. There was a little antique car show and band playing. It was nice hanging out in the canal breeze, listening to the music and watching the dredging operation in the “harbor”. After some ice cream and lots of boat watching, it was time to leave. Again Abigail (at least, not so much Vera) slept the whole way home and went right to bed when we arrived. Turned out to be a really nice trip. One we’ll be sure to do again next summer.
