Thunder Snow

Went XC skiing in the snow storm Wednesday night.

Wasn’t necessarily a very smart thing to do.

I was sick, but Gretchen needed to run. I thought the worst of it would come later.

On the 3 mile trip there, I passed an accident. Should have turned back then.

The whole gang was there. No turning back now.

The wind driven snow drove us into the woods. Soon there after we skied out into the fields before being driven back again.

At some point there was a flash. We thought someone had taken a picture, but no cameras were out.

Crash! The thunder overhead clued us in.

Then the cameras came out.

Gretchen was having a blast running with Topher’s dog and chasing all the skiers, but that was short lived.

It wasn’t necessarily cold, not even with the wind, but it was wet and that made it cold.

The thought of leaving the family home as the snow piled up felt seriously irresponsible. It took away the fun of the downhills.

Wow! Topher and Gretchen have the same jackets.

Though not having a light bright enough probably played a role too. We did find this happy snowman in the woods.

Then climbed our way back out and down to the parking lot.

I didn’t waste any time getting home, though most of the what was coming down was done.

Stuck slightly at the top of the park, a little back and forth broke me free. The worst was the hill closest to home. It’s blind enough without the driving snow. All you can do is gun it and go.

The bamboo stopped me cold. Had to get out and shake things up a bit. Check that I was still on the driveway and go again.

Finally in the garage and safe.

I think.

Woke up Thursday sick as a dog. Who knows when I’ll ski again.

Should of held off Wednesday. Would have been skiing everyday instead.
