Beers in the Woods

Sean and I rode with the dogs last night.

A couple miles in we stopped for a break. Not sure why. Might have been my god awful screeching rotor, the near full moon, or we’re just old and tired.

While we’re standing their doing nothing in particular, we see someone’s light headed through the woods our way.

We knew the regular Wednesday crew was out and we’d run into them eventually, but a single light (i.e. rider) alone in the woods is not what we expected.

As the light approached, a voice neither of us recognized asked, “You guys thirsty?”

Having already encountered some goofballs in the parking lot wearing shorts and no gloves in 20+ degree weather telling us the trail was too rough for our hard tales, we were leery of strangers’ stupid questions.

I replied back with a smart-ass “Only if it’s liquor.”

“Close enough. I got three Storm King’s to share.”

That’s when we knew it was Rob Lamb. Since he couldn’t do the entire Wednesday night bonanza, he rolled out from home on his cross bike to get some miles in at Marsh Creek and share some beers with whoever he came across first.

Sean and I were the lucky ones.

So there the three of us were in the woods under a near full moon drinking Storm Kings on a cold winters night.

It was perfect.

Rides like that are perfect.
