Fathers Day Gunks
Got out with some friends for a little climbing in the Gunks over Father’s Day weekend.
Scott (peach shirt) is our resident leader – meaning he climbs first, sets all the gear, and builds proper anchors. He’s got 20 years of experience doing this, while I’ve only been trad climbing twice and this was Craig’s first time at all. Scott did a great job taking us up both pitches of Horseman and Wrist, then he decided it was my turn to lead. So up I went on Ribs. Pretty damn fun. Very addicting being out on lead, placing gear, and solving problems. So much so, I turned around and led Black Fly too.
The second day we headed to The Nears to climb Gelsa and Disneyland. I did not lead the second day, but if we had stayed longer surely would have.
Yes there’s lots of gear to sort. The key is knowing when to use what where.
