What’s Going On

Anybody who says the time with their young children went by too fast obviously had children that slept. It was fast, because they slept through it.

Not Abigail. Not us. We don’t sleep at all – at least not when she’s getting new teeth. It’s the eye teeth now – all four of them.

I think it was Friday night she was up for a couple of hours. Nothing seemed to help. No meds, no nothing. The kicker was she still got up at 6am refusing to let me keep the blinds closed and lay down on the floor in her room. Moving to the living room to sit on the couch, she wouldn’t even let me lay back. It was daytime and time to play. “Get your coffee and let’s go!”

Eh.

So she got up again last night, but only for a minute.

Whatever. It is what it is and she’s still the best – until the next one comes.

Speaking of the next one, we’ve started working on the nursery. What we called the “Red Room” turns out is a little too red for a nursery we think, so it’s getting bead board.

Yeah. All that trim I put up had to come down.

Luckily my parent’s decided to spend their 40th wedding anniversary helping me put it up. Of course Abigail helped as well.

And when she wasn’t helping, she was either dancing

or reading “a book, a book, a book.” – something we hear all day long or “butt, butt, butt” as it’s been lately.

It wasn’t all work. We managed to get out to an out-grown sale and buy up a bunch of stuff for Abigail for the winter. I think my mother and I monopolized the 24 month/2T clothing options, quickly grabbing all we could then handing Abigail back-and-forth to try it all on. Abigail and my Dad were real troopers. Abigail gave us just enough patience to try on something quick, rip it off and try something else, while my Dad quietly sat there holding all we deemed worthy a future fit.

I was most happy to find a pair of sneakers to keep her feet warm on our morning bike rides (more on that later – maybe).

We also manged a trip to Chesapeak City for some crabs.

So now Abigail’s been for crabs every year of her life. Granted she was only able to eat them this year and really had as much fun throwing shells into the bucket as eating them, but whatever.

Lucky kid. Crabs at the beginning of the month and Lobster at the end.

When the bead board was done, my parents took their party on the road and headed down to Chincoteague, VA.

I still can’t believe how much of my childhood was spent there. Maybe that’s what we’re doing wrong? Maybe we need to spend all these slow moving days/wakeful nights in some place vacation like? (counting down the minutes till my Mother leaves a comment on that one…)

I rode my road bike from West chester to Chesapeak city where sarah picked me up on the way to my parents. What place did you eat? I was going to get a beer in the tap room but didn;t want to leave my bike outside unlocked. I changed into shorts but still had a cycling shirt on. I ended up getting a beer at a cafe around the corner. The busiest place was the restraute along the docks. but I just needed no crowds and a cold beer.

The Tap Room is definitely your kind of place. It’s totally dive bar, but with friendly staff.
