Dish Duty
Along with hanging laundry, Abigail and I have been doing dishes together too.
We also got some video from the other day. I have to warn you. It’s a little long. It’s probably grandparent only kind of length. Feel free to cut out, skip ahead or just skip altogether. Also please disregard my filthy appearance. This was filmed Monday after I’d been working on the motorcycle most of the afternoon – not that I typically care, but the HD really brings out the sheen of my hair.
The last couple of nights have been rough for us. Not sure if it’s been the lack of outdoor entertainment due to the heat or what, but Abigail hasn’t been going to bed until 10pm or later. Usually she’s in bed by 8:30 (at the latest) and we have a little time to relax before crashing ourselves into bed at 10pm. Instead we’ve had to entertain her with things like dishes (which need to get done anyway) and bouncy seat sessions. Yeah I know. You’re supposed to have a bedtime routine of relaxation and calming activities to help ease them into sleep. It doesn’t work. Abigail doesn’t calm (she’s my kid after all). She’s just alert until the last minute.
When she finally does appear ready for sleep, it’s a battle to get her down. She’s rubbing her eyes and yawning, but screams bloody murder at any sign of us trying to put her down. After she does calm down a bit and appears to be asleep (takes about 10 minutes of bouncing on the exercise ball), you try to put her down and she starts screaming again. Either another 1o minutes on the ball or some boob time (yes we know, you’re not supposed to condition them to go to sleep with the boob, but we’re just happy she’s getting to sleep) will finally get her down.
For how long? Who knows? Might be a couple of hours (we’re talking 2 and a half here. there’s nothing longer than 3 hours for us, which we consider a complete gift) or might be 20 minutes. In which case you have to do the whole get her to sleep battle again.
She’s lucky she’s loved.
