Canyons and
needles.

More canyons and
needles.

Here we are fnally
entering the Chesler Park area where we'll
camp..
|
|
Some desert flowers
along the
way.

After we found our
designated camping area, we set out for an afternoon hike on the
Joint trail in Chesler park. This is Trent standing out on one of
the rocks. The rules of the park say you can go anywhere you
want on trails and rocks, but stay off the soil. The soil in
many places is a living organism called Crypto- biotic
soil. It's like a moss or lichen that's very delicate, but
very much alive. It's the beginning step to turning desert sand
into plant sutable
soil.

|
Lots more
needles.
|
|
Here's a close-up of
the red rock material. It almost looks like it's
melting.
|
|
And more needles,
though the windswept textures on the white rocks in the forground
are cool too.
|
|
The Joint trail took
us down into some of the crevasses between the rocks. I took a
picture of some guy leaving to get a
perspective of how far we went down.
