Buddy was
putting down some consistant laps. The rules of the day had your
last lap going out before 7pm. You couldn't leave for a lap after
that. Buddy's fifth lap had been fifty-eight minutes. I left him an
hour to do his sixth lap. Would he get back in time to send me
out before 7pm and do my seventh lap? Yep - with
five minutes to spare. Technically we had second place
firmly in our grasp even without the last lap, but the rules of team
obligate you to go if your teammate makes it back in time. So yeah I
did seven laps and seventy miles that day. My last lap was the
longest, but I was taking my time and enjoying my time on the bike.
Matt had the ultimate compliment when Wes came in with
thirty seconds to spare. Technically Matt didn't have to go out
either (they had actually won the entire event already), but
obligations being what they are Matt painfully headed
out.
There was a photographer at
the event taking pictures. I thought for sure I'd have a photo of me
on one of the table-top jumps, but no. I did see him taking
pictures as I went over this log near the end of the
race. He got two shots, so I mushed them together. There
was a picture in the gallery of some guy actually launching
off this thing. Too precarious for me to get air, but riding it was
fun.
Rob actually made Frank Zappa
Kappa t-shirts for everyone. It was kind of funny seeing the pink
and green all
around.
The awards were held around 9pm that evening.
The guy with the blue hat leaning against the tent pole is Levi. He
won the 12hr solo event. It's ok for him to
lean.
Rob, Diane and Marc got second place in the
three person open category. For having everything Diane hates in a
mt. bike course (hills and technical), they did really
well.
Levi ecstatic
over his first 12hr solo
win.
Buddy and I got second place
to Ethan and Mayhew in the singlespeed duo class. They rode well.
Not bad considering I had done 170 race miles in a weeks
time.
