Thorpe Ride

The girls and I headed up to Thorpe last Monday for a dirt bike ride. This time I did it solo – without the help of Craig.

They did awesome. Their skills have significantly improved – the most important being able to stop (similar to skiing). They’re about 80% – 85% of the way there to being able to stop all the time in whatever condition.

Lauren’s new helmet – that actually fits – makes a huge difference as well. She’s so much more comfortable and in control now that she can confidently see without worrying that her helmet will bump around to obstruct her view (very bad).

We even made it through the dry dam this time. They didn’t actually ride the portion under the dam, but we got all the bikes through and continued through what used to be the reservoir to the back where we had a little fire and cooked some lunch.

Lauren must be having a growth spurt, since she ate 3 1/2 hot dogs.

After lunch we put out the fire, and headed back.

Again they did great. Of course there were the usual ‘hit a rock, get bounced off track and crash incidents’, but those happen all the time. That’s part of riding a dirt bike.

We made it back safely and with a lot of fun.

We’ll probably do the same route a few more times, improving their stopping abilities and my confidence, before we look for other routes to take.
