Competition Complements
We (Lauren actually) received a lot of compliments regarding Lauren’s composure at the tournament. She lost both her matches, but never shed a tear or made any fuss.
Generally for the kids there’s one very excited winner and one very sad loser. Boys and girls up to the age of about 9 have some hard lessons to learn and very publicly. After 9, they seem a lot more comfortable with and roll onto the next tournament.
We told her going in that she’d likely lose. We told her to just look at the entire thing as practice. There were elements beyond the matches and winning/losing that she needed to experience and have practice with. Getting through the day with a positive attitude was her win.
Parents were blown away.
We were very proud.
She fought really hard and did her best. That’s all you’ll ever do win or lose.
She told us there were moments when she thought about crying, but told herself that she’d done her best and that’s just how it is.
