More Night Climbing
Craig and I had so much last week, that we went back to The Narrows last night. Conditions started out very similar to last week – a nice warm day – predictable ice. But the closer we got to the top/head wall, things changed. There was obviously more water running, the ice became softer (softer than […]
SNOW Ski
Looking at the forecast for the weekend last week Saturday looked like the best option to go skiing. Though it was supposed to snow 2 – 4″ and have a single digit windchill in the morning, it was better than the high 40’s and rain predicted for Sunday. Jen’s biggest concern of course was driving […]
Missed Ignition
A couple of nights now I’ve come home from work, found the pellet stove off, and the house cold. Last week when I got home from night climbing at midnight, I found a “missed ignition,” then spent an hour and a half getting it lit again. Sunday morning when I left to climb before anyone […]
Flooded
4″ of soft wet snow on Saturday Sleet and rain Saturday night Temps in the high 40’s on Sunday The detached garage has water about 3″ deep at the doors and covering almost half way back into the space. Contemplating waiting until the freeze tonight to break up and shovel out the ice that it […]
Abigail Turns Five!
Yeah. I’m 15 days late, but there were a lot of pictures. Though we said we wouldn’t, we had another big bash. This time it was at Bounce U. It was pretty cool. I think everyone had a great time as you can see by all the pictures here. I can’t believe she’s five. wow! […]
Unprecedented Cold
Duh right? When it only gets up to the teens then dips to single digits or negative at night, we’re burning almost two bags of pellets a day. That’s nearly 80 lbs of compressed sawdust! As much as I like winter, I’m really looking forward to warmer weather. – b
Night Climb
Craig and I got out for some climbing at The Narrows tonight. Pretty damn fun. We climbed the Main Gully. Soloed the first bulge, then I lead almost all the way up to the head wall. Craig lead the last bulge. The leading wasn’t entirely necessary, but a fall on ice 100′ up can have […]
Poor Car
In six months time I’ve put a little over 10k miles on the new Subaru. Wow! Three trips to the Adirondacks in three months will do that. Those three trips have also accumulated two ice ax gashes in the cargo area. Ouch. – b
Don’t Push the Button
It was 10:30 pm and 9°F as Craig and I headed out the door of Camp Peggy O’Brien three and a half miles into the Adirondack wilderness. Three members of our group hadn’t been seen or heard from since 2 pm, when they decided to split from other members and take a different path. We […]
