Bum Shoulder

Somewhere in the February time frame I noticed an ache in my shoulder.

It appeared that the more I did push-ups (every day), the worse it got.

At one point I started taking my prescription strength Naproxen to see if that made things better.

It did. It made things a lot better, so I continued doing daily push-ups. When I went off the Naproxen, I learned the error of my ways. Whatever the injury was, the Naproxen masked it and now it hurt worse.

I stopped doing daily push-ups. The pain subsided, but there was still a dull ache.

This went on for months (since February). It didn’t prevent me from climbing, nor does climbing make it worse, but it was still there.

Finally tired of hearing me complain, Jen made me get an appointment with the Dr.

Not relating it to a specific incidence of injury, the Dr. could only prescribe an anti-inflammatory steroid and physical therapy for 3 weeks (this is an insurance restriction). His “diagnosis” was a shoulder sprain. Had I experienced a specific injury, we could have gone right to an MRI and see exactly what’s going on. After the course of the steroid and PT if the pain persists, we can try and move onto the MRI.

Based on the PT’s first examination it’s most likely a Labrum Tear somewhere near the point that the bicep connects. Not an activity ending injury, but still somewhat limiting.

Of course I’ll have to continue with the PT for 3 weeks, then go back to my Dr. for a reevaluation, and then hopefully get an MRI for an actual diagnosis before we can figure out the right course of action. Regardless I’m probably fine for this year. Just don’t ask me to do anything bicep intensive.
