A Night in the Woods

Wednesday night I headed out to meet the guys at the ruins and drink beer that’s been buried in the woods for 2 years.

It was a pretty cold night (sub 30° F), so I bundled up in layers of long underwear and other articles of insulation.

The girls kept asking what I was doing, where I was going and why.

I didn’t really have a good answer.

Umm. I’m going out in the very cold woods to illegally start a fire and illegally drink beer on public property, didn’t sound like the message I needed to give my kids. So I told them what I always tell them.

“I have to go meet Mr. Yarnall and Craig.” which they strangely seem to always accept. Somehow things in their minds regarding Mr. Yarnall and Craig are legit.

Ah the innocence of kids. Who am I to corrupt them with the reality of times in the woods with Mr. Yarnall and Craig?

Besides the legality of the activity, it turned out to be pretty nice. The fire was hot. We had great food both sausages and venison burgers prepared by Ben. The beer (Victory Dark Intrigues, buried 2 years ago to age) was delicious and very smooth.

I cut out early (11pm), since Thursday mornings are our crazy mornings with each girl going to different schools at different times.

All in all a good time.
