New Bike

Finally stepped Abigail up to a pedal bike, though honestly it feels a little more like a step back.

She’s a lot more confident and faster on her balance bike, though there’s a lot more going on here. A year ago we borrowed a friend’s 12″ peddle bike, but found the peddling part too difficult and the weather getting too cold.

Sidetracked by the swing set, it’s nearly a year before we try again. Again we borrowed the 12″ bike and almost immediately she’s peddling. Ok. Time for your own pedal bike. Problem now is what size. Her balance bike, which is 12″, is very comfortable for her. The 12″ pedal bike also seemed more easy to handle as far as balance goes, but in 6 months she’d surely be too big. So we went for the 16″.

Yeah. It’s probably too much for her to peddle without the training wheels, but how much peddling will there be between now and next spring when she will be big enough to handle it. Regardless she needs to get stronger with the peddling to get enough speed for balance to even work.

Oh. And she really likes it.

Her sister likes the few upgrades it afforded her as well – notice the baskets on both?

It’s funny. I think the bike intimidates me more than it does Abigail. I have a really hard time picturing her zoom around on this thing, but she’ll be doing it before you know it.
