We’ve Got Issues

Sick

So the cold that Abigail first got with a 24 hr fever has passed to Lauren, which turned to a phlegmy cough and runny nose in her before Jen got it accompanied by a sore throat has circled back to Abigail and settling into me.

Last night I fell asleep shortly after 9 only to wake up at 11 to find Abigail was sleeping with us for the night because of it. Lauren is doing better and I think Jen is on the mend too.

I think I may have some kind of tendon damage in my wrist or stress fracture from all the digging. It doesn’t hurt so much while I’m digging, but doing other things after the fact tends to be painful. Maybe I’ll try taping it tonight?

This morning I put my window down on the way to work. When I went to put it back up, it wouldn’t go. Call the dealer. A new switch (if that’s the problem) is $270 in parts. A new motor (if that’s the problem) is $400 in parts. Labor is $95. Because I’m pretty sure it’s the switch, we called the junkyard for a used one. Their price is $50. Either way I have to add dealing with this in the middle of everything else. In the meantime the Subaru is in the garage and the truck is my main transportation. Unfortunately the Subaru is a big part of our digging operation. Having the all wheel drive helps moving about the yard (especially when it’s wet from the kiddie pool, sprinkler and/or rain). As long as it doesn’t rain during the completion of the project we’ll be ok, and I’ll deal with the window when it’s done or something like that.

Hydrology

I was talking with a friend yesterday who is also installing a play set for his kids and about to spread mulch. His big question was “what are you doing about drainage?”. My answer yesterday was ignoring it until we know it’s a problem. Guess what? It’s a problem.

Which only means more digging.

This morning I dug these quick channels, but obviously the solution will have to be a bit more involved i.e. more digging.

Hopefully I don’t pass out tonight and Abigail sleeps on her own, so we can actually get some of that digging done.

Just a suggestion from an old man…… stop digging…..take the kids to the park…get better…go on vacation.

coming from a man with a reputation of never finishing a project himself, I’ll take your suggestion into consideration…
