Party Weekend

This past weekend felt like non-stop action.

Oh wait. It was.

Friday night worked late on the swing set and Jen’s Dad and his wife showed up from California.

Saturday morning I went climbing with Buddy, Sam, Scott, and Josh (from NJ). That turned into an almost all day affair – more on that in another post.

Saturday night Jen and I had a party to go to, so we turned it into a “parents night out” event with dinner and drinks first. It was a 40th birthday party for a friend of ours. Their intention was a family affair with all the kids, waters slides, camping, etc, but we opted for fast and light adult fun.

Didn’t quite go that way.

The restaurant we usually hit for these kinds of things was closed, so we headed to the next town over for sushi. Getting back to the car after dinner, we found a parking ticket. Apparently there’s a two hour window on Saturday nights where the meters are monitored. Bummer.

Get to the party. Things are fun. Friends are there. The beer is flowing. Being parents that don’t get out much, sometimes it’s difficult to pace yourself. After a few, a few more , then when it’s time to leave (we had a kids party to attend the next day) Jen decides to try out some of her boxing moves on Mark. She’s hitting him (in the abs) and he’s hitting her (in the arm), and they’re both egging each other on to hit harder. Somewhere along the way I tried to intervene to either keep him from hitting her harder or her to hit him harder, or for both to just stop when Mark picked me up in a bear hug. As he did, he caught my elbow against my rib (while I was holding a beer I assume), and cracked it I thought.

Great.

We finally wind down and head home.

Wake up bright and early Sunday morning to get Abigail to her last swim class. Take Grandpa to watch and drop off at the car rental facility while we drive back home to go to Dresden’s 3rd birthday party and Grandpa and Ms. Kate leave for her son’s in North Carolina.

Dresden is the son of Michael who I met at the climbing gym. Dresden is Leeloo’s brother. We had never been to their house, never met Michael’s wife Melina and Jen had never met any of them. Should be interesting.

It was interesting. We met some nice people and the girls had a great time. See more here. We party hardy, then pack up the girls to head home for naps.

Pound some coffee and work on the swing set while they nap/sleep.

That was the weekend.

Totally exhausting and mostly fun.
