Pellet Trials

Now that the spring shoulder season is well under way, I’ve begun testing the various brands of pellets I bought last fall.

The first up was Hardwood Heat.

They’re bagged for and sold by Tractor Supply. I had heard they were just a repackaging of Lignetics (certainly burned well like Lignetics), but a little snooping on the interwebs says they’re made by Hamer (my premium of premium pellet). No wonder they burned so well, and they were nearly a dollar cheaper at Tractor Supply. Unfortunately the same source that said they’re made by Hamer for Tractor Supply, also said their labels and retailers change almost yearly. So either they won’t be around next year or the label will be produced by someone else – which means the test is nearly null & void.

Lovely.

Onto the next brand.

Another Tractor Supply purchase, but definitely produced elsewhere. I’m only one bag in, so the results will have to wait a few days.

Stay tuned for more tests and results.

ps. further searching says Hamer owns the trademark for “Hardwood Heat”, so maybe Tractor Supply won’t be a distributor, but someone else will.
