Ready for Whatever

Calling for 3 – 5 inches of snow today, so I spent some time yesterday getting “the equipment” ready.

I started with the snow blower. Since I hadn’t started it in 2 years, and noticed I never turned off the fuel valve, I was a little nervous.

After pulling the cord a few times without much luck, I decided to try the electric start – plug it in, push the button, vroom!

Took a couple of tries, but it started and ran fine after 5 minutes or so, and that’s why I bought a Honda.

Next was the tractor. It was still in leaf mulching mode (mower deck, bagging accessories, etc.). Took 3 hours to get that off and all the plow stuff on.

When I bought the snow blower I figured I’d never need the plow system again. A friend of mine and that first winter convinced me otherwise. Snow under a certain depth just isn’t worth the effort of the snow blower. It’s easier to sit on the tractor and push the little bit out of the way. Over a certain depth and the effort to use the tractor is too great. It’s easier to walk behind the blower and let it chew through the depths.

So now we’re ready. Sitting inside watching the snow come down and waiting to go sledding. The driveway clearing comes later.
