Next Project

We’re reorganizing.

Having two little girls has proven we need to be better at where stuff goes, and they’re not even shopping for themselves yet.

Our “workroom” downstairs (more of a storage room really) has been inefficiently utilized since we moved in. Some quick measurements and calculations show we can store/stack 24, 66 qt. bins (the clear ones with blue lids in the picture) in our shelves with some slight modifications. Hopefully we won’t need 24 bins, but instead a nice combination of those and some other storage type things (e.g. the black storage drawers seen  in the background of the picture).

It won’t all be clothes that go down there. Hopefully all things domestic (e.g. sheets, pantry items, paper towels, etc.) will fit nicely together and be easily found.

All the other things (mostly home repair related) will be packed and organized out to the detached garage. It will become the permanent and protected (the door has a lock) work space harboring sharp and dangerous tools and what-not.

This project has been a long time coming. We’ve known since the beginning we weren’t getting the most out of the space that was there.

So far this weekend I’ve “thrown out” (i.e. mostly recycled) and cleaned up lots of stuff to make room. It’s amazing, but I just don’t need 5 random jars full of random screws.

It’s funny as I do this I continually ask myself “if  I died tomorrow, would I really want to be found with all this junk around”?

The answer is a resounding No.
