Basement Work

Trying to get things back to some semblance of normal.

I first cut out the Silverfish infested rotten wood.

It was pretty nasty – like a resort for the little buggers. When the saw hit, they scattered. Luckily I disagreed with Jen and her assessment that these boards were fine and cut them out anyway. Something told me that opinion was shared by only herself.

Remember this is the corner that still gets wet.

With the studs out of the way, it was significantly easier to put up a vapor barrier of 4 mil plastic.

Ideally I’d use 6 mil and polystyrene, but all this is temporary, so I went cheap and fast. The plan, since drywall is so cheap ($8 a sheet), is to throw up some insulation and drywall, but not finish it. This will give us walls and comfort until it’s time to redo it all for real.

Today I’ll scab up new studs, insulate and hopefully get some drywall up.  It won’t be long and we’ll have some kind of room again. Hopefully one nice enough for Abigail to play in this winter.
