No Poker Face

Had a second guy come out to the house last night for an estimate on a basement waterproofing fix.

He was real friendly and nice. Said most of the right things and what I expected.

Finally gives me the estimate. It’s $500 – $700 more than the first guy and he won’t move the water equipment (purifier, neutralizer, pressure tank, water heater) nor give me an estimate on the finished wall replacement costs. All of which was included in the first guys estimate at $500 – $700 less.

With no poker face, he knew I was displeased upon reading his estimate.

Immediately he jumped into questions/assumptions I’d gotten other quotes and who had the advantage.

I tried throwing him off telling him his materials were better than the first guys, but again I have no poker face.

He knew before he got in his car, he probably isn’t the guy to do the job.

Which isn’t entirely true. He’s not completely out of the running. We still have more estimates to get and research into the first guys credentials/references.

There’s still a chance. There’s always a chance, regardless of what my furrowed brow might allude to.

Hell. Abigail furrows her brow at me all the time. I find if I furrow back more furrowed than her, she smiles and all is good.

Eh. He’s probably out.
