Night Ski

Realized last night I’ve only ever been XC skiing at night. Not even sure I’d enjoy it during the day.

The few inches we got the other day over the barely few inches we already had made for some so-so skiing conditions last night. Though skiing out over the lake in its few inches of slush didn’t help the glide once the slush froze to your skis.

Gretchen enjoyed being out.

Probably wasn’t the best thing for her banged up dewclaw, but keeping her inside 24/7 with the cone on is driving her nuts. Hopefully the snow was soft enough to have not been a problem.

What was a problem was my over layering of clothes. Who would have thought a pair of long-jons under my nylon pants would have been too much for 20° F? Or two long sleeve shirts under my completely unzipped (arm pits too) soft shell would have been too hot as well? The wind whipping across the fields never felt so good. I was miserably slow on the climbs. Taking my time to prevent myself from completely sweating away.

I should have known it was going to be that way after clearing/partly shoveling the driveway that morning in only a short sleeve t-shirt.
