Electrical Fix

The electrical sub-contractor that made a mess of the back of my house finally came back out this week to fix things.

Since the mess, I’d been withholding the remaining 2/3 payment on the install. It’s not like it didn’t work, but it looked like crap. The guy that did  it, just threw things together and ran off to the next house to fix.

So they were back on Tuesday to “make me happy”. It was ridiculous. The guy really had no clue. If I hadn’t been there watching over his shoulder I could have gotten just the same. At every decision point he’d automatically go for what was quick and easy. He’d tell me there was some electrical code restriction that wouldn’t allow him to do the right thing without “a lot of extra work.” I’d walk away pseudo accepting his explanation and think about it some more. It wouldn’t take long before I’d go back and tell him he was wrong and it would work within the guidelines if he’d try a little harder.

So he’d try and sure enough it worked and looked better.

He was clueless.

I couldn’t tell if he was dumb or just so used to a career of doing everything quick and easy he didn’t know any other way.

How do I get a career like that?

Funny (using the term lightly) thing was they were done before noon, used less supplies and equipment and could have done exactly what I asked for the first time. There was nothing new or additional that I wanted. I simply wanted a clean and professional install.

There’s still a little room for improvement. Maybe I’ll get to that.
