Solid Food

We decided to try some solid food on Abigail while we’re away.

Jen hard boiled an egg and cut up the egg yolk for her. Apparently it’s the egg whites that people can be allergic to. The egg yolk is perfectly safe.

Unless you count the single green bean husk (she swallowed and passed whole a few days later) or the corn husk we let her suck on a few weeks ago,

this would be her first solid food meal.

I have to admit. I had really high expectations.

I thought she’d gobble it all up, fill her belly and sleep the whole night through.

But it didn’t go down like that.

Like typical babies “eating” it was more playing – mashing it between your fingers then mashing it against your face or at best into your mouth. In the end I don’t think she liked the taste of it, and if you think about it, plain hard boiled egg yolks are a little on the sour side.

Just because my extravagant expectations weren’t met doesn’t mean this wasn’t a total success. She did manage to get a considerable amount down (half a teaspoon probably) and keep it down. Most importantly, there were no ill effects in her diaper.

Not sure when the next feeding will be or what it will be. I think we have to stay with egg for a week before moving onto something else.

Hopefully the next food item is tastier, she fills her belly and finally sleeps the whole night through, but I might be exaggerating just a little.
