Carolina Motorsports Park Kershaw, SC 11/4/00
Gearing: 15 - 44 could have tried a 45.
Tires: Bridgestone slicks - soft on rear, ultra soft on front
Tire Pressure: ???
Gas: VP c-12
Turn 1 left hander off of front straight. Start braking at marker 4 and down shift twice. Was scary cause it was a left hander.
Turn 2 right hander quick after T1. fast turn. passable turn?
Turn 3 left hander and fast with lots of width on the exit. apex early and run wide on exit for good exit line.
Turn 4 after straight stretch (go up a few gears, maybe just one?) from T3. bang it down a gear but maintain speed at brake marker 2 or 1. it's a left hander, but go fast.
Turn 5 right hander quick after T4. T4 and T5 almost become esses, andexit into a carousel. Apex early on T5 and go wide on exit into carousel. this will set you up nicely for T6. Good place to pass people - either keep it tight and pass on inside of T5 and T6, or go wide and fast and pass them into T6.
Turn 6 right hander exit of carousel. Apex early and go wide on exit or stay tight to pass people on exit. if done correctly, should exit around 12k and shift soon.
Turn 7 fast right hander after decent straight. get a couple of gears on the straight and downshift once for turn. brake late and wide (on outside edge of track). make turn and exit wide. pass on outside r inside if need be. can also outbrake and pass at entrance. a lot of riders park it before this turn. it's fast and safe. hit it hard like T10 at Summit, but not as wide an exit as Summit. should come out with a shift up.
Turn 8 slight kink and dip. go down to inside or stay wide to pass.
Turn 9 big kink with pavement transition. could/should run wide open, but was backing off then hitting it again. stay just left of pavement patch. knee could hit patch. come out wide.
Turn 10 decreasing radius to left. brake and downshift at marker #3. could/should probably brake and downshift at marker #2. go down 2 gears. maintain good entrance speed. lots of traction in this turn and it's wide. get on gas early and go wide or stay tight to pass? get knee down for comfort and stability. Had no problems with this turn except myself. just needed to go faster through it. lost too much time and speed here.
Turn 11 tight right hander with narrow exit. turn late and exit wide or tight to pass. must turn in late. the pavement has a bump or something if you turn early. can also carry more speed than I was. had trouble at the beginning with this turn. was sliding and not smooth. turning later and carrying more speed actually seemed to help. do not pass on outside at exit - no room!
Turn 12 tighter right hander. downshift once and apex late. narrow exit. more narrow than the last. be careful to not get on the gas too much. rear slides out of this turn. high side threw me off bike, rodeoed and kept going, so be careful!
Turn 13 go up a couple of gears before turn. decreasing radius to the right is crazy tight and slow onto front straight. brake and downshift twice at marker #3 or #2. Apex late and exit wide, but stay off gator teeth. rear often slides out of this turn.
