Mid-Winter Fix

Talladega Feb. 9 - 11, 2001

Dave, John and I decided to pack up John's van and 14' trailer and head to Talladega, Al the first weekend of February. It was WERA's southeast opener. The trip started at 8pm on a wednesday night. John and I drove to Charolette, Nc to pick up dave then on to Talladega by noon. The trip was 16 hours in all.

Dave's new steed before the trip. Dave had sold his old Honda 125 (that he bought from John) and bought John's
Yamaha 125. John bought himself an Aprillia RS250. He had dreams of racing in the Aprilia Cup races with
F-USA, but his job at Blackman's Motorcycles kept him a little too busy for that.

Watching DVD's in the van somewhere through Georgia. John did most of the driving. He can't sleep or do much
else when other people are driving his van, though I did most of the driving overnight to Charolette.

John recovering from the trip. We got there early on Thursday before they opened the gates, so John crashed out
on the porch of this shed outside the track. I guess he was sick of being in the van.

Planning their strategy or modeling euro-trash leathers?

Sometimes there just are no words.

Doing what I do best. I ran off the track in turn one and went down in the mud. It was a really stupid mistake. My
Dad and sister came down from Nashville to watch us. My Dad was there all weekend, while my sister showed up
with a friend on Sunday.

Packing up to go home.

We probably left about four or five o'clock that evening for the sixteen hour drive home. Got home, turned around
and went to work Monday morning.
