Kershaw, South Carolina
Nov. 2000
For the
last race of the season Dave and I hauled our stuff down to middle-o-no
where south carolina to race with CCS at Carolina motorsports
park. I borrowed an inclosed
trailer from another racer friend of mine (Keith) and drove down to
Hickory, NC on Thursday to meet Dave where he'd been working for the week.
We stayed the night, then headed to Kershaw early Friday morning for the
practice day. My dad even showed up to hang out with us that
weekend.
At the end of the regular 2000 season I had Speedwerks
do a complete
overhaul on my bike. I took nearly three bikes to them and asked
them to build the best of all the parts. In addition, I got some
extra go-fast parts and a flashy paint job.

But Carolina ended in tragedy. One of the
improvements made to the bike caused the throttle to stick going
into a turn. Without having much time to think, I ran it
straight off the track into the sand. Not sure how fast I was going,
but it had to be at least 45mph. They actually
rolled the ambulance for me on this one, though I didn't need it.
When I first tried to get up, I fell back down because of pain
in my tailbone. That caused them to send the ambulance. It was only
the initial shock of the crash, I turned out okay. Here
I am pushing my bike
onto the crash truck after the race.
