So here's the rundown on my snowboard trip to
Vermont with Dave. Friday the 21st I drove to Hartford,
CT to pick up Dave at Bradley Int. Airport. He flew
in from Charlotte, NC. We then drove an hour or so to
Conway, MA to stay with his sister Lisa and her husband Leigh.
Saturday morning we got early (way early) and drove two hours
north to Killington to snowboard for the day. The temp at the base
of the mountain at 8:30 am without windchill was -14 degrees.
Because of the cold, the mountain was nearly deserted for the
weekend. The snow wasn't the best (there was actually gravel in
some places), the runs were long and lines short. We left around
4pm to head back to his sister's. The temp was now -16 degrees and
it was snowing.
It took us 3 hours to make the trip home in
near white out conditions at times. Finally on Lisa & Leigh's
road we had to battle snow drifts and hills to complete the trip.
The snow was so deep in some spots it literally plowed over the
hood of the car and onto the windshield. This would also force snow
into the enginecompartment temporarily causing the motor to
strain and nearly stall.
Waking up Sunday morning to 16" of
fresh snow, Dave had nothing much to do other than feed his nephew,
Forrest, some breakfast.

The original plan was
to head back up to Vermont and possibly hit Mt. Snow or the
like. With all the snow we
got,
we weren't getting far.

We finally decided to
try a local mt. called Berkshire
East located in Charlemont, MA. The roads weren't completely
clear, but we made it and had a blast. We had at least 12" of powder
for most of the day and short to non-existent lift lines. At the
end of the day I dropped Dave off at his sister's, then drove on
home to Philly.
It was really quite a trip
