Finally on Cedar Mesa. We didn't get all
the way to the end where the highest point was, but the views
were pretty good from wherever you looked. As you can
see another storm was rolling in, so we weren't here for
long before we made the 2.5 hour hike back. This is looking south
off the mesa and across the valley. You can barely
make out another mesa on the other
side.

This is looking back
from where we came. All the way around the right side of the mesa in
the middle is where we had to go. On the left is Canyonlands
National Park. On the right is Lavendar canyon in the BLM open
range
land.

Here's a view of
Canyonlands National Park from Cedar Mesa. You can also see one of
the Six Shooter Peaks. If we had made it to the end of the
mesa we could have seen more of the park. We'll just save that for another trip.

Here's an old Jeep
that didn't make it on the mesa. It had obviously been here a
while
(decades).

Finally back to
civilization (sort of) cleaning up before we headed
home.

This is called the
Needles Outpost. It's a privately owned convenience store just
outside the park. Everything runs on solar power and everything
is very expensive. Gas was $2.70 a gallon for the cheap stuff
and showers were $5 for 5 minutes. It was nice considering the next
part of our trip was a 29.5 hour drive back to
DC.
