On the morning of Tuesday the 20th we hiked
from our campsite in Chesler Park to our campsite in Elephant
Canyon. It was a short hike lasting almost an hour. This is
part of Elephant
Canyon.

More in Elephant
Canyon. You can see the trail where we are going down at the
bottom.

After we dropped our
packs off at our campsite we hiked up to Druid Arch at the end of
Elephant Canyon. We figured it's called Druid Arch because it
looks like something at Stone
Henge.

Here's David, Trent
and some guy we met from Oregon relaxing near Druid Arch. It
was a 2.5 mile hike from our campsite to Druid
Arch.

The ends of these
canyons (usually where the arches were) all had a similar bowl
feature. Basically the canyons would end as huge stone bowls
with everything washing down a stone pipe as seen below.
You could almost ride a skateboard in these bowls or pipes. The
stone would last a few hundred yards then turn to
sand.

A desert plant with
cool white hairy things in it. I think it's a member of the
yucca
family.

A cool old tree
weathered by the wind, sand and
sun.

This was a campsite in
Elephant Canyon for the second night. Trent's getting ready for
dinner.

This is the view
across the canyon from our campsite.

Wednesday the 24th, we
were done backpacking and heading into ond of the 4x4 zones in
the Park. This was the Horse canyon/Salt creek area. It's
supposed to have a lot of Indian ruins and artwork. We
didn't find as much as we
would have liked, but we didn't look nearly as hard as we could
have.
