Dan and I did
a couple of weekend adventures while we were there. One time we went
out to the Olympics for some camping and hiking. Another time we
went to a beer festival in Portland, Or for the day. That was a fun
drive home. The most exciting was our trip to Mt. Ranier. We camped,
did some hiking, and trekked up to Camp Muir at 10,000 ft on the
volcano
. This was one
of the many beautiful waterfalls in Mt. Ranier National
Park.

Here's the summit from a
distance. I assume this was taken on our hike to Camp Muir. I can't
remember exactly when we went, but it was most likely
July. The entire hike was on snow. It made the ascent kind
of slow, but the slide down was
quick.

This is Camp Muir. It
consists of two stone huts and a level area for tents. Some hikers
summiting the mt. use this as a base station. Other than that
it's a very popular day hike. Unfortunately for me I
was suffering from altitude sickness. In my excitement to
hike to my highest elevation, I didn't take it slow.
Ascending as fast as I did without any acclimatization made
me really sick. I could only stand to be at this spot
for about fifteen minutes. As soon as we got below the
8,000 ft. point (the eleveation at which elevation makes people
sick), I started feeling better. I was so upset. It was a goal
of mine to maybe summit the mt. that summer. Getting sick kind
of blew that one for
me.

Here's the snow field where
people camp going up or coming down. If you look real close in the
snow above and to the left of the tents you can see four little
dots. Those four dots are people headed to the
summit.

When the summer was over Dan
and I drove back home with my dad. My dad flew out to make the cross
country trip with us. The three of us riding cross country in my
truck was kind of interesting. Here Dan and I haul the couch he
borrowed to the garage at the place (dump) I stayed in. I must have
just gotten back from a trip as you can see my tent airing out
on the line next to the
house.
