In August of
1999 I flew out to Durango, Co to meet Nile and some of his friends
for a 4x4 trip near Silverton, Co . Nile was living in New Mexico and
drove up his Bronco with his friends and their vehicles
for the trip. We stayed in Durango the first night, had dinner
and drinks before heading out to Silverton the following morning.
This was at the beginning of the trip before we headed off-road.

And here's some "off-road"
driving. The driving on the trip was mostly tame. One of
the vehicles with us was a stock
Ford Explorer,
so it wasn't that technical.

We spent most of our time in
the mountains up and around Silverton. I'm pretty sure the white
spots are
pockets of
snow.

Self portrait while I was
driving. Altitude can do some silly things to you.

Cinnamon Pass at 12,640 feet.
It was interesting driving to these elevations. You felt fine until
you jumped out of the truck and tried to walk around. The thinner
air made you feel drunk - more so then
we
were.

One of
our stopping and
regrouping points.

Another view of the same spot.
I didn't realize Nile's friends were so short. He looks like a giant
around them, but he's not much taller than me - even with all
the protien shakes he's
consumed.

I think this was near
our campsite for the night. While chilling around the fire that
night we heard this strange wailing. Upon investigation we found
some woman wandering the road looking for help. Apparently she
and her handicapped huspand (I think he was quadrapalegic) got their
truck stuck down the mountain from us. After lots of digging and
pushing, we hooked up Nile's Bronco and pulled their Dodge Ram to
safety. They were much appreciative
.

A nice picture of the
scenory.

The highest point we
reached was Engineer Pass at 12,800 ft.

|
Some more beautiful
scenory. The clouds and mountain are pretty too.
