Me on
my first lap. This was somewhere within the first five miles of the
course.
|
|
Also the
first lap, but in the last five miles of the course. This hill
sucks. This is the first half of it. It wraps up the right and keeps
going over loose rocky stuff. First lap up of course I felt
strong. Not so much the following laps, though I refuse to ever walk
any part of this one.

action.

Evan, the mechanic at the shop, showed up to
wrench for us. He and his friend Smethers were much
appreciated. Mechanically they kept things moving, while
providing middle of the night humor to lighten things up for
us.

Here's Smethers refueling with a can of
Jolt.

Evan trying to
resurrect Marc's
bike.

The guy at the right standing
next to his bike is me. I think I was just showing up to wait for
Rob. This picture kind of gives you an idea of what the fog was
like.

This was
the bruise I got when I crashed on my first night lap. I went into
the first big rock garden a little hot and lost it. I completely
spun, slipped and fell on my back onto the rocks. It hurt like
hell. I was able to get up, but had to stand on the side of the
trail for a minute to regroup. This was my slowest lap of
the race. Afterword that lap, I took some anti-inflammatory and
slept for a couple of hours.
|
|
Marc did five laps for his team. On
the last one he took some beers, Evan and Smethers along. He still
pushed out a decent lap.
|
|
The resurrection worked!
Marc's team (Baked Beans) won second place men's expert. My team
(Magical Fruit) got fourth men's
expert.
|
|
Marc, Ben, Chris and myself stayed the
night Sunday after the race. We had too much to pack up and were too
tired. Finally the skies cleared and we could see the sun before
it set. We even had a little camp fire.
