After dinner the crackberry fools
typed messages to their families in hopes they would sync when
we went out later.
Awfully hard to tell if it was
just a "kiss the kids good night for me" or a who's
more important competition.
It
was still too early to go out, so Bill lost to Jeff
in a quick game of Cribbage.
Finally we headed out to Bill's
favorite the Tiadaghton Inn, but it wasn't
meant to be that night. There was some dumb drunk dude making
Bill uncomfortable, so we left and went to the Venture Inn
(picture).
Thinking back, I should have blown kisses or something to
the dumb drunk dude. That would have made for a more
interesting evening
I
have to admit it was fun cruising the redneck bars in
Jersey Shore in Kurt's Mercedes.
Notice the similar dirt patterns
on the fender of Kurt's Mercedes and Bill's Jeep? Hmmm makes
me wonder.
Sunday morning I headed across
the creek with Gretchen. Jeff had been across the day before.
The temps had stayed in the 40's all night, so there was a
considerable amount of melt. Here you can see the channel of
unfrozen water running downstream. Where I was standing was a
little frozen bridge over the channel. The edges of the
channel were actually thick enough for Gretchen to stand on
and drink from if she wanted.
Here you can see the top layer in
this area had melted to slush. In other areas water was
flowing over the top of the ice, but it was all still frozen
enough to walk across.
We
walked up to the Rail to Trail where Jeff had gone XC skiing
the day before. It was beautiful. I wished I hadn't been too
sick to take my skis.
And that was it. We packed up and headed home shortly after
lunch. Another successful/restful winter cabin trip
done.
