The incline plane was a relief for CJ. He
was having problems in the washed out area above. The rocks
were all tumbled around
and lots of
scrambling was required. A couple of times his rear legs fell
through the holes between the rocks. By the time
we
got here, he was limping,
which was a concern considering we had 6 - 8
miles to
go.

At the bottom of the trail,
where it meets the railroad bed,
we filled up with water
. I thought it was kind of funny we were filling our
toxic lexan bottles with...

Highly acidic water. Still
refreshing!

Ah the railroad bed. Five to six miles of
straight-flat
bliss.
It's an
interesting contrast to the trail we did the day before on top
of the ridge. The trail on the ridge is an old stagecoach
trail (probably older than the railroad) that curves and
rolls. The railroad bed is straight and flat (slightly
uphill going in this direction). You'd think the railroad
bed would be boring, but it easily has nicer scenery then the
trail up top.
There's a trail that runs parallel
to the railroad bed just off to the right. We could see it
from time to time twisting and turning through the forest. But
by this time we were tired of twist and turns. We were
perfectly happy with straight and semi-flat.
CJ
was happy too. Though favoring his hind leg, he was
moving
along.

Back near the cemetery and lime colored
pool, there's this
nice campsite where we stopped for lunch.

scenic trail - nearing the
end.
