Possum Kingdom

A month or so ago, the dog came across an opossum in our yard at night. The opossum hissed and CJ left it alone. No big deal, but I did some research and found the following sites: PossumRescue.com, opossum.org, and opossumsocietyus.org. Still no big deal, until we started losing entire suet cakes from our bird feeder overnight. I haven't actually caught an opossum in the act, but knowing they're around and that whatever is eating the suet is doing it under the cover of night I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Apparently birds can't taste the pepper and it's only irritating enough to mammals to make them not eat it again. I guess we'll see. I can't imagine hot peppers being harder to eat then dead animals and rotten garbage. If it doesn't work, we'll just have to try something different with the suet until the opossum decides to move along.
