As we finish
painting each room, I go through and replace all the switches and
receptacles with new ones. The ones that were here were old and
ratty. It also made it a lot easier to paint when we
didn't have to worry about taping everything. These were the
switches in the kitchen after my mom finished painting
in June
06.
Sometimes a light fixture gets
replaced
too
.
Replacing the
receptacles in the office when we finally finished painting it. Each
receptacle and switch, in addition to getting a new
electrical part, gets a new face plate and insulation.
Receptacles in outside walls are particularly prone to
drafts.
If you haven't
been shopping for receptacles, switches and face plates, you'd be
amazed at the variety. There are outlets and switches of varying
strength and quality. Face plates of various sizes, colors and
styles. For the most part, we chose residential
quality outlets and standard white face plates, though we could
have used a medium sized face plate here to cover up the paint
abnormalities.
