After
enjoying the wild birds in Paoli for so long, we (more like I)
couldn't wait to get a bird feeder setup at our new place. The
previous owners had a huge setup, so I had a
hunch the variety and abundance of birds would be nice. The
previous owners also kept a B-B gun by the sliding glass doors,
so I also had a hunch squirrels would be a problem.
Sure
enough it didn't take the squirrels long to figure out how to climb
the pole and hang off the feeders to eat. While at the Wild Bird Center one day, we decided to get a
squirrel baffle and see how effective it could be. The baffle is the
black cone thingy in the middle of the pole. If the baffle worked,
we (more like I) had bigger plans for a better
feeder.
The baffle totally worked. The squirrels left the feeders
alone to eat only the corn cobs we put outside for
them. With the success of the baffle, I moved onto the next
feeder project. I got a 10.5 qrt feeder and feeder tray to sit a
top an eight foot pole just eight feet oustide our new
It puts the feeder
just about eye level when you're sitting inside at the kitchen
table. Because of the height of the window, you
don't see the baffle or much of the
pole.
It's a perfect setup for
all kinds of birds. Trying to get a picture of
all the birds at
once is the tricky
part.
